Tokyo City Promotion - The photos [Feb. 3rd, 2009|03:35 pm]

We had a great time in London for the Tokyo City promotion day! It was fun having so many dressed in kimono. We got quite a lot of attention and many photos were taken of us. There weren't quite as many booths as I'd hoped, but we stil had fun. The kanzashi maker was very popular. After the event we went to JapanCentre in Piccadilly for a lovely Japanese meal. This is the first time I've eaten in a Japanese restaurant in kimono! Yay! I'm glad this event took place on Saturday because now London is under a very heavy blanket of snow. 12 inches in some parts which is a rare occurance indeed. Only 5 inches at my house at it's peak. Enjoy!

This isn't all of us, there were two more dressed in kimono. The lady on the end in Furisode was a nihon buyo dancer.

More Tokyo fun here:Collapse )

Some of you may have seen this on IG already, but I really love this new kimono. This obi gets dragged out once a year and this time I've teamed it with my newest wool kimono. $8 kimono! What a bargain! Kimono is from RyuJapan, kanzashi from Vivcore and the obi? Might be Japanese Antiques on e-bay 2 years ago.

Sunday I went to Llangollen in Wales for a Kimono Exhibition. I met up with two Immortal Geisha members, one of which was hosting the exhibition. Fantastic! If you're in the area, I advise you to take a look. Unfortunately, it's only open during the weekdays until the 25 January. It was open this last Sunday because the hall was also hosting an antiques fair. The three of us dressed in kimono. It was nice to have us dressed in everyday wear as the exhibition contained mostly formal kimono. I brought one of the "famous" ship hikizuri in existence to compare with Susan's kimono. It was quite surprising on just how many differences these "identical" kimono had.

I was unlucky in the fact that a very nasty cold decided to rear it's ugly head and I've been sick since Sunday. Many others in the office where I'm working are suffering the same illness. It's really going around the UK right now. :(

Anyways here are some lovely kimono to feast your eyes on...

I'm so pleased with this outfit. I have a feeling I'll wear this a lot. The han-eri I made from some fabric with shiba inu and temari balls on it. The kimono is wool. The obi I just finished making from a bolt I've had for a few months. Finally, the obi dome is made by a friend in Germany of a shiba inu of course!

I haven't had much time for kitsuke, so finally today I made time for it. I dressed in my cream awase tsukesage. It is definitely Autumn in England, so decided to dress appropriately. This is probably my most expensive kimono and the most age-appropriate one for me that I own. I feel very elegant in this one. As always, I have a problem somewhere in dressing myself. Today it was the date eri to sit straight. And everytime I get my hem too short. This kimono is a bit too short for me anyways, hence the short ohashori, but I think it would pass to unknowing eyes. ;) The obidome is actually a brooch made by West Midlands glass artist, Emma Dicks of Glacier.

I finally have a day off today, so I'm playing kimono dress-up. Here are photos of me in my yabane kimono. My otaiko musubi is improving, but very far from perfect. What do you think of these colours together? Sadly the purple shibori Nagoya obi I have doesn't quite match the colour, but may try it anyways. I may go for many tones of purple all at once. I like to do that. This is a Fukuro obi, but does it matter? I just like how these look together.  My kimono are fitting so much better! It's so nice to just pull any kimono out of my collection, and now know that it fits! :)

I bought a mannequin recently and I've been dressing it to try and improve my kitsuke skills. Here are photos of the other purple komon kimono and my Japanese Chin obi.

New Dog obi [Apr. 19th, 2007|09:27 am]

I've had my eye on this obi for quite sometime. I see a lot of these come up on Ichiroya and other sites and they are always gone before I get a chance. Well... just caught them at the right time last night and I finally got one. The dogs are Japanese Chin. And the balls are temari. Two themes I like very much. Also very happy to have an obi with red in it. Not sure which kimono of mine this will look best with, but that's the fun of trying things out. Yeah for the dollar to pound rate right now! Everything seems so reasonable right now. That is unless you are an American over here with an American bank account wanting to purchase things here in the UK! Ouch!

Visit with Amanda [Apr. 2nd, 2007|09:16 am]

his weekend Amanda, surlenil
came to visit. We had a great time going all over the West Midlands, Shropshire and Wales. We also dressed up in kimono last night. It is so much easier to dress someone else! I think that's the best taiko obi I ever tied. :) Amanda has the ideal kimono body, so it was so easy to dress her. It was the first time I dressed someone else. Too bad I didn't have a furisode for her to try. Today we're off to Stratford.
